Situation: You are the father of an autistic four-year-old and have to choose neither, both or one of the following:

  • from the school district, an offer (almost; you won’t have anything official until the IEP team reconvenes next Friday) of Speech, Occupational Therapy, Special Day Class, and Pre-K Mixed–to be combined in a manner TBA. On the plus side:  it’s free and prepares your son for the rigors and realities of public education.  On the negative side: it prepares your son for the rigors realities of public education, and his social emotional needs take a back seat.
  • from a private therapeutic pre-school, a 15 week intensive. On the plus side: social needs take the front (driver’s?) seat, a total of four children, a therapist/client ratio of nearly 1:1.  On the negative side: it’s short, expensive and not very academic.

Question: What you do you do?

  1. lose sleep
  2. bicker with wife
  3. doubt your sanity
  4. try to pull your *&%! together
  5. blog
  6. all of the above

Answer: #6
